With the first real snow storm of 2016, winter is upon us!  And with our first snow day yesterday, the next two snow days will be Blizzard Bag days.  I will update the blog to let you know which Blizzard Bag you will be completing if we have a snow day.  Please keep in mind that completing your BB assignment counts as both your attendance grade and a classwork grade for the day.

Meanwhile, dress for the cold temps and stay hydrated! Plenty of H2O is just as important in cold weather as in hot temperatures!

It's a Blizzard Bag Day!

Good Morning Quarter Three Health classes!  Today was changed from a delay to a cancellation, and is a Blizzard Bag Day.  We discussed this on Friday so you should know what to do.  Go to the Blizzard Bag 1 Tab at the top of the page, and read the directions.  You have a couple video clips to watch and activities to complete. I will be online during school hours if you have any questions.

Remember!  Tomorrow is our Clinic Field Trip.  If you still need to bring me your permission form, be sure to drop it off at the start of the school day.

Have a happy, healthy Monday!

Another Monday, another Blizzard Bag!

Your topic today is sugar, which is timely as we just talked about this in class last week!  Please go to the Blizzard Bag 2 tab at the top of the page and complete the activities.  Be sure to leave me a comment.  Have a great day!

Hello third quarter classes!  The weather forecast looks like big SNOW.  Please remember that our first "snow day" of each school year is NOT a Blizzard Bag day!  If we have a second snow day, you will need to complete Blizzard Bag One (see page tabs at the top of the blog)

Here's to a great 2014-15 school year!  Some things to remember:

1. Your sleep schedule will likely need to adjust in order to be awake and ready for the early school day.  To get to sleep earlier, put away all electronics at least an hour before bed.  Studies show that these (phones, computers, video games) make it harder for the brain to fall asleep. Try listening to music or reading for the last hour before bed!  And, hard as it may seem, try NOT to sleep in too late on weekends.  Our brains and bodies work better with a semi-regular sleep schedule.

2. You know that making nutritious food choices requires some thought and planning!  Pack healthy snacks to avoid the vending machine, such as nuts, fruit, string cheese and yogurt.  My fridge is available.  Try to avoid those sugary drinks that add so many calories and sweeteners to our diets.

3.  Finally, stress is a fact of life, and school can increase stress. Work on your time management skills, ask for help as soon as you need it, and pay attention to what people, places and activities  reduce YOUR stress.

Be sure to stop in and say hello!

I hope you all have a safe, happy and healthy summer vacation.  A few things to keep in mind (remember, I'm the Health teacher!)

Use sunscreen!  Tanning not only ages your skin prematurely, it greatly increases your risk of skin cancer later in life.

Hydrate!  You all know how important it is to drink enough water, so do it!  Remember, a headache is often a sign of dehydration, so reach for your water bottle before you try medication.

Have fun!  Make good choices, think about your risks and protectors, and enjoy the break.
